Disney travel agent credentials
EarMarked by Disney is Disney's own recognition program for travel agencies, and this page explains exactly what it means, what stands behind it, and how to use it when you choose an advisor.
Quick answer
A Disney Earmarked agency is a travel agency that Disney has formally recognized for meeting its standards in Disney destination training, sales performance, and guest experience. The status is awarded to the agency, not to an individual advisor, it is reviewed every year, and it comes in tiers: Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. It is not required to sell Disney vacations, which is exactly why it is a useful signal.
EarMarked by Disney is a recognition program run by Disney Destinations for travel agencies. You will sometimes see it written as EarMarked by Disney, Authorized Travel Agency. The older phrase, Authorized Disney Vacation Planner, is still commonly used and refers to the same program.
The designation belongs to the agency as a whole, not to any one advisor. Disney does not certify individual agents, so an honest advisor will always name the agency that holds the status. If someone tells you they are personally Earmarked, ask which agency they book through.
Earmarked recognizes three things together: proficiency in Disney's curated destination training, demonstrated sales volume across Disney destinations including Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Aulani, and Adventures by Disney, and a track record of guest satisfaction. One strong area does not carry the others.
It is invitation based and re-evaluated every year. An agency can gain the designation, keep it, move up a tier, or lose it. That annual review is a big part of why the designation is worth anything at all.
Two things trip people up. The first is the name. Disney has used more than one phrase over the years, so families see Authorized Disney Vacation Planner on one website and EarMarked by Disney on another and assume they are different programs. They are not.
The second is who holds the credential. Marketing language sometimes blurs the line between an advisor's personal training and the agency's recognition. Those are separate things. Training such as College of Disney Knowledge belongs to the advisor. Earmarked status belongs to the agency, and a good advisor will hold both in the right hands and say so.
It also helps to know what Earmarked is not. It is not a price program, it is not a discount club, and it does not unlock rates that Disney hides from the public. Everyone sells the same Disney vacations at the same published prices. What changes is the training, the relationship, and the level of attention your reservation gets after it is booked.
Key point: any licensed agency can legally book a Disney vacation. Earmarked is the layer above that. It means Disney itself has looked at the agency's training, volume, and service and put its name on it.
The entry level of official recognition. The agency has met Disney's training standards and baseline performance requirements.
An established agency with a consistent record of Disney sales and service across the year.
A high performing agency with significant, sustained Disney volume and deeper access to Disney's business development team.
The top of the program, awarded to only a handful of agencies each year.
Disney does not publish the exact sales figures behind each tier, so be careful with any agency that quotes you a number. What is generally true is that higher tiers come with more direct support from Disney's business development team and earlier communication about promotions and product changes. For a family, the practical benefit is the depth of experience and support standing behind the advisor you talk to.
I book through The Curated Travel Collection, which holds Earmarked Platinum status.
There are two layers here. The first is what any agency needs simply to sell Disney vacations. The second is what Disney weighs before it recognizes an agency with a tier.
Industry accreditation
The agency must hold a recognized travel seller credential such as an IATA, IATAN, or CLIA number. This is how Disney identifies and pays a legitimate agency.
Disney Travel Agents portal registration
Advisors must be registered through their agency on Disney's advisor platform to reach booking tools, rates, and agency-only resources.
College of Disney Knowledge
Disney's own training program covering Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Aulani, Adventures by Disney, and National Geographic Expeditions. Advisors are expected to complete it and keep it current with ongoing modules and annual refreshers.
Insurance and state registrations
Errors and omissions insurance, plus any state seller of travel registrations that apply to where the agency operates.
Sustained sales volume across Disney destinations
Disney looks at booked volume over the evaluation period across its destinations. The dollar thresholds behind each tier are not published.
Agency-wide training compliance
Advisors across the agency stay current on College of Disney Knowledge and Disney's continuing education, not just one or two people on the team.
Guest satisfaction and service standards
Disney weighs how guests are cared for, which includes accuracy, responsiveness, and how problems get resolved.
Consistency year over year
Status is reviewed annually, so a single strong year is not enough. Agencies have to keep performing to keep their tier.
How I fit: I am IATAN accredited, a College of Disney Knowledge graduate, and I book every Disney vacation through The Curated Travel Collection, a Disney Earmarked Platinum agency.
Here is the honest comparison, including the parts that favor doing it yourself.
| Booking direct | A general travel agency | An Earmarked agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disney specific training required | None. You learn as you go. | Maybe. Some complete Disney training, some do not. | Yes. College of Disney Knowledge and ongoing modules, agency wide. |
| Recognized by Disney | Not applicable. | Accredited to sell, but not recognized with a tier. | Yes. Disney reviews and awards the tier each year. |
| Price you pay | Disney's published price. | The same price you would pay booking direct. | The same price you would pay booking direct, because Disney compensates the agency. |
| Who watches for new promotions and reprices your trip | You do, on your own schedule. | Varies by agency and advisor. | Your advisor, as part of the booking. |
| Help with dining, Lightning Lane strategy, and cruise port adventures | Self serve through Disney's apps and websites. | Depends on how much Disney they book. | Planned with you, from advisors who book these daily. |
| Who you call when something goes wrong on the trip | Disney's general phone lines. | Your agency, if it offers travel day support. | Your advisor directly, with the agency behind her. |
| Knows resort tiers, stateroom categories, and ship specific details | You research it yourself. | Sometimes, depending on experience. | Yes, and usually from firsthand stays and sailings. |
Booking direct is a perfectly reasonable choice if you enjoy the research and have the time for it. You will pay the same rate, and Disney's own team can take the reservation. What you take on is the watching: new offers, dining windows, itinerary changes, and the small decisions that add up on a first visit.
A general agency can be excellent, especially if the advisor books Disney often. The risk is variability. If Disney is a small part of what they sell, the details that matter most to your family may not be second nature to them.
An Earmarked agency narrows that risk. Disney has already reviewed the training, the volume, and the service record, so you are not judging it on a website alone. The price on your confirmation looks the same either way.
Disney releases new offers throughout the year. An advisor at an Earmarked agency watches for them and applies a better offer to your existing booking when your dates and room qualify. You do not have to keep checking.
I stay at Disney resorts regularly, including the deluxe and luxury tier and properties like Four Seasons Resort Orlando, and I sail Disney Cruise Line. When I tell you a room location is worth it, that comes from standing in it.
Earmarked agencies have a named business development contact at Disney and earlier visibility into changes. That matters when a family has a special request, a celebration, or a problem that needs a person rather than a phone queue.
An Earmarked agency has something to lose. Disney reviews the status every year, and service quality is part of that review. Good care is not optional when your tier depends on it.
A Disney trip for a family of four often runs into the thousands once you add flights, a resort, tickets, and meals. That is a lot of money to hand to a plan you built at midnight between other responsibilities. The point of an Earmarked agency is not that it makes the trip cheaper. It is that the same money buys a better planned week, with someone accountable for the details.
Which agency are you booked through, and what is its current Earmarked tier?
A good answer names the agency and the tier plainly, without dodging the question.
Are you a College of Disney Knowledge graduate, and when did you last complete the training?
Look for a recent date, since Disney updates the modules regularly.
What is your agency's IATA, IATAN, or CLIA number?
An accredited agency can share this without hesitation.
Will you monitor my reservation for new Disney offers and reprice it?
You want a clear yes, along with how often they check.
When was your last stay at a Disney resort or sailing on Disney Cruise Line?
Firsthand and recent beats reading about it, especially for resort and stateroom advice.
What happens if I have a problem during my trip?
The right answer includes a direct phone number and a person, not a general inbox.
Ask me these exact questions. I will answer every one of them plainly, and I would rather you ask them of every advisor you speak with.
I plan Walt Disney World trips and Disney Cruise Line sailings for families who would rather enjoy the trip than manage it. You get the same price you would pay booking direct, because Disney compensates the agency, and you get me on the phone when something needs sorting. Tell me who is traveling and what you are hoping for, and we will start there.
